You can now get to the third largest airport in the world with less hassle because of a new service at the Chippewa Valley Regional Airport. Some say this is a good thing for passengers, and the community.

Their roots are in Chicago, but until now, Judy Michalski and her husband, couldn't fly there without making a stop in the cities.

"Chicago's a big city. There's a lot to see and do there and I think probably there are people in the area that are from Chicago," Michalski said.

Now a new airline service in the Chippewa Valley is making it easier to get back to their home city more often.

"I think it's just a great thing to have that connected flight again back to Chicago," she said.

We did an online search using the united airlines website. We searched for a flight leaving on a Friday in April and returning Sunday. The cost for one adult roundtrip, with taxes and fees, was $292.80.

"Leisure travelers are a lot more price sensitive and they have a lot more time to plan than the business traveler," Airport Manager Charity Speich said.

The new service offers three flights a day to Chicago and more people can take advantage of those flights since the jet aircraft has 50 seats instead of 34.

“We have three wonderfully timed flights throughout the day and so I think it brings really good service into the area," Manager of Marketing for SkyWest Brandi Honey said.

Speich says the new service will benefit the airport and the community.

"It means a little bit more revenue for the airport in terms of landing fees and fuel flowage so it's good on our financial front as well, but really our overall goal is to get people using the facility," Speich said.

Speich says there's an early morning, mid-day and evening flight every day to Chicago.
