Wisconsin will get almost $6 million to help reduce obesity in La Crosse and Wood counties.

The money is part of President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant to support public health efforts. La Crosse County says it will use the money to expand an existing Safe Routes to School program that encourages kids to walk or ride their bikes to school as well as work with more local restaurants to increase low calorie meal options. They also want to improve infrastructure environments for adults who wish to bike to work.
