Truckers Wanted!

Between 1990 and 2000, the number of miles traveled by trucks increased by 38 percent and is continuing to grow. Trucking companies are currently in desperate need for more drivers. The current driver shortage can be attributed to many different elements; a strenuous lifestyle of the job, baby boomers are beginning to retire, and the turnover for truck drivers is increasing.

"With the economy growing, there’s more and more jobs becoming available," said Mike Millis of Millis Transfer in Jackson County. "(People) have a choice right now of what they want to do, and there's just not enough people to go around."

CVTC offers a truck driving program, and their enrollment is consistently full, with about 200 graduates per year.
