A meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the pros and cons of having a mayor in Eau Claire won't be the first such discussion. The idea has been debated before, and if this time doesn't produce results, it will likely be brought up again in the future.
Members of "New Leadership Eau Claire" said a mayor would work to promote the city and move it forward. While they claim the idea wouldn't leave the current city manager out of a job, they're also not promising a mayor everyone will get along with.
"You could get cronyism; you don't like his policy, but the benefit to that is you can work to vote him out," said group member Ken Fulgione.
Opponents don't think electing a mayor would be a cost-saving measure; decisions are made faster with a city manager, and aren't politically driven.
