Ho-Chunk President George Lewis is wearing a button at the Democratic National Convention in Boston that says "I'm Indian and I vote."
Wisconsin tribes contributed more than $700,000 to the Democratic National Committee in the past two years, and also fought a lawsuit brought by Republican state legislators that attempted to invalidate their gaming compacts.
For his part, Lewis is leading the convention's Native American caucus and helping to raise money for John Kerry's presidential campaign. Lewis, like Kerry, is a Vietnam War veteran. Lewis also sits on Kerry's national finance committee.
