Dirty politics: That's what Governor Doyle is calling attempts by state Republicans to amend Wisconsin's constitution to limit state spending.

The Governor urged lawmakers not to rush just to meet the impending August 3 deadline.

He also called for "robust" public hearings on the matter and accused state Republicans of trying to revive the amendment "in secret' while many democratic legislators are attending the national democratic convention in Boston.

The amendment to tie increases in state spending to growth in personal income was revived by Senate Majority Leader Mary Panzer Monday night.

State Republicans are now rushing to draft legislation, hold a public hearing and vote on the matter in less than a week.
