After six alcohol-related deaths on the UW-Stout campus over the past two years, the chancellor is making campus-wide changes to try to reduce binge drinking.

At the end of March, UW-Stout Chancellor, Charles Sorensen, issued an e-mail about an effort to reduce binge drinking on the Menomonie campus.

A part of the plan that has received the most attention is to increase the number of Friday classes to discourage Thursday night binge drinking.
Students could face suspensions and even expulsions for things like repeat underage drinking tickets, using fake I.D.'s or hosting house parties.

Chancellor Sorensen says the changes are needed.

"I have had enough of young people dying. We see shattered families, shattered friends. It's enough. So we have to, if you're gonna be a responsible leader when you recognize the issue, address the issue and that's what we're going to be doing."

Sorensen says the feedback he's getting from students and parents is turning more positive. The changes, which are getting national and international attention, will take effect this fall.
