LA CROSSE, WI (WEA)--Today, Democrat Jill Billings announced what she would focus on in Madison if elected to fill Senator Jennifer Shilling's former 95th Assembly District seat.
Billings is the current vice chair of the La Crosse County Board. She plans to work on job creation, education and tax fairness, if elected. Billings says she’d co-sponsor a number of bills that would help give tax benefits for employers for things like hiring new employees and for relocating or expanding businesses in Wisconsin.
For Billings, working on “tax fairness” includes large corporations and the wealthy paying more for taxes and looking for other sources of income for the state.
"Like sales tax for Internet purchases. If our local brick and mortar businesses have to be part of sales tax, why not Internet purchases?” Billings said.
The primary for the 95th Assembly is on October 11th with the general election November 8th. The other Democratic candidates are Nick Charles, Christine Clair and David Krump. The Republican candidate is David Drewes.
