Almost 40 kids are training to improve their figure skating abilities at the first Winner's Edge Development Camp for Figure Skaters in Spooner.
The skaters will spend Thursday through Sunday working on and off the ice with Olympic coaches. They stay in area dorms during the camp, and combine their training with trips to the movies and swimming.
Ten of the kids are from Eau Claire, and all are excited to be working with such talented teachers.
"They have more experience, and they've been with a variety of skaters," said Emily Dehmer, who came up from Eau Claire to attend the camp.
"They know how to deal with each individual skater."
The kids will be joined by present-day Olympic coaches on Saturday. Organizers seem confident that the camp will run once a year in Spooner since they filled this year's camp.
