The Chippewa Falls school board says it’s willing to shell out $300,000 to buy 20 acres for the future.

Monday night the school board decided to offer to purchase 20 acres along County Highway I and Seymour Cray from Chippewa County.

The Chippewa Falls school board president says they're considering buying land because they're running out of space, especially in the elementary schools like Jim Falls where a conference room and library are now classrooms.

The school board says it makes sense to plan for growth now, and the county may pitch in to expand its conservancy, which borders the land. Board members say there has been no formal talk of a referendum at this point.
