Affordable Care Act help

(WEAU)--The Affordable Care Act Health Care Marketplace is up and running. But there's a warning from consumer advocates about scam artists using the new law as a way to take your money.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, since the Affordable Care Act launched last week, 8.6-million people have visited the website and 225, 000 people have requested for online chats for counseling.

But there are some concerns popping up too. The Department says scammers are trying to use the health care marketplace to get to your wallet.

If you haven't visited the Affordable Care Act Market Website,, the first time you first you will get too prompted to option to learn more or apply. The website will walk you through the process of applying or you can apply over the phone by calling 1-800-318-2596.

Since Wisconsin doesn't have a health care exchange, if you want help face to face you can go to or call your county Department of Human Services.

There are also public and private agents that can help you decide on coverage.

The Better Business Bureau says hundreds of thousands of people have started their application process and they encourage you to shop around before selecting a coverage by asking agents questions. But agents warn to beware of people who contact you.

The Better Business Bureau says no one should ask for money in exchange for help and you shouldn’t be getting texts or emails regarding the new Health Care Law.

If you have concerns about a phone call the recommendation is to just hang up.

The open enrollment deadline is March 31st . But if you want your insurance to start January 1st the deadline is December 15th.
