LAKE HALLIE (WEAU)-Two people are hurt after a semi tried making an illegal u-turn.
Village of Lake Hallie Police Chief, Cal Smokowicz, says the crash happened around 5 Friday morning near the intersection of 40th Avenue and Highway 124. The chief says a car was heading southbound on Highway 124. A semi was going northbound when the driver realized he was headed in the wrong direction. He tried making a u-turn on a part of the highway that did not prohibit making one. That’s when the car hit the semi towards the middle part of the trailer.
The driver of the semi, a 45-year-old male from Ingalls, Indiana, was not hurt. The driver and passenger in the car, both from Cadott, were both injured. The driver had serious injuries.
The chief says it does not appear that speed and alcohol were a factor in the crash. State Patrol is investigating if speed was a factor.
The crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed pending further investigation. Names of the injured elderly couple in the car have not been released yet until family is notified.
