Area shoppers head out to find back to school deals

It's that time of year again. August is almost here and many families
are gearing up to go back to school.

In a survey by the national retail federation the average American family spends more than six hundred dollars each year on back to school supplies. WEAU's Drew Williams talked to some shoppers
about how they're saving money on supplies this year.

With students needing everything from pencils to notebooks
and even the latest tech gear families are hitting the stores to try and find a bargain.

At Shopko in Eau Claire the shelves are packed with the latest back
to school must-haves. Shoppers can take advantage of deals on marked down items. By shopping early they don't have to worry about stores running out of inventory. Looking at weekly newspaper ads and shopping around to different stores is a good way to save money. But one shopper said one of the best ways she cuts down on the back to school costs is just use some supplies left over from last year.

Kelly Falkenberg says, "Yeah we use scissors, markers and stuff like that. They only used a little bit of. Or colored pencils, we'll reuse those."

With back to school shopping being such a large part off the family
budget many local stores have donation bins where they encourage shoppers to drop off extra supplies that will go to needy families.
