Big Rig Truck Show boasts new attractions

Eau Claire, WI (WEAU) -- If you're a fan of the big rig, you'll be happy to hear more than 100 semis are making a longer stop in Eau Claire. It’s all part of the Big Rig Truck show that's going on now through Sunday.

The 5th annual Big Rig Truck show is back at the Chippewa Valley Technical College campus.

Terry Biddle with the show says, "We have trucks here from across the United States. It's a group of individuals that have come to Eau Claire to support the community."

Whether you're thinking, "Go Pack Go!" or setting your sights on something a little more intense, with around 100 semis, the Big Rig show has it all.

"There are so many people that come and look at the trucks and are in awe, and many of them that are 5-years-old of and course they want to ride in it, and a lot of the parents say kind of sheepishly, ’Can I ride in the truck?’ ” says Biddle.

Biddle says, new this year, is the chance to see the world from the drivers perspective. He says, “Tomorrow afternoon, we’ll have two semis from 10am until 1pm, we'll be giving rides. Many people ask for that, the past couple years. The kids can be 60 years old, let's put it that way.”

Biddle says this year they've also added a display of farm tractors, but says the focus is truly on the educational aspect. He says, “It's meant to be educational, especially for the public and also you find out how tiring it might be to drive this truck, what they haul, where they haul, stuff like that."

Owner and driver, Dennis Hilker has been on the road for nearly 55 years. “It's more or less show and tell now for me with the Cabover, which has a lot of nostalgia now because they're not made anymore. Just being able to talk to people and tell them about it, it's just really kind of neat,” says Hilker.

Hilker says the people, and being able to share his unique truck, keeps him coming back to Eau Claire year after year. He says, "I’ve made a lot of friends through the years.”

The free event will be open to the public again Sunday from 9am until 2pm.
