(WEAU) - The man accused of killing his girlfriend in Black River Falls likely won't get out of jail anytime soon according to prosecutors.

Thursday a judge set a cash bond at $500,000 for Michael Harmon, 36. Prosecutors say Harmon intentionally shot and killed his girlfriend Angela Nelson at their apartment in Black River Falls on June 8th.

In the criminal complaint, Michael Harmon says he and Angela Nelson were fighting all day. He says he shot her during a struggle over a gun.

Thursday, Assistant District Attorney Melissa Inlow told us Harmon is on felony supervision by the Department of Corrections right now. “As long as the revocation hold is in place, even if he posted the bond, the doc would not release him from jail,” said Inlow.

Harmon’s public defender sent a statement saying Harmon maintains it was self-defense and the death was a tragedy. The defense says Harmon is cooperating and the public should withhold judgment until the facts come out.
