EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Two local teens are accused of a dangerous and potentially deadly game, terrorizing passing drivers by hurling rocks at cars and shattering their windows.

WEAU 13 News has the inside story of how officers tracked down the teens.

It all went down Monday night in a neighborhood at North Hastings Way and Eddy Lane on Eau Claire’s north side.

The Eau Claire Police Department told WEAU two boys from Eau Claire, ages 13 and 15 are responsible for hiding along Hastings Way and throwing rocks at cars, but their night of crime didn’t stop there.

Justin Peterson said his drive home from work Monday night felt like any other, until he got past the intersection of North Hastings Way and Eddy Lane.

“I was driving home around 11. The next thing I know I hear a couple noises and my window is shattered,” Peterson said.

Stunned, the college student pulled over and found two holes in one of the back windows of his Chevrolet Blazer.

But he wasn’t the only one to be hit.

About ten minutes, later police said they got another call from a driver in the same area.

The caller said his front windshield was hit and shattered by an unknown object.

“One of the reporters indicated they may have been in the ditch area off the side of the road rather than above,” Eau Claire Police Officer Kyle Roder said.

Roder said officers were then hot on the trail.

“Officers were able to track the footprints in the snow to a residence on the north side of town where they located two juveniles, a 15 and 13 year old male,” Roder said.

Roder said the teens admitted to throwing rocks at the cars and on their way home, hurling a rock into the front window of a house on the 2900 block of Terry Lane.

“It's ridiculous that some kids would cause all these problems. I'm going to have to pay a couple hundred bucks for that just so they can have fun,” Peterson said.

Police said the teens’ parents may have to cover the cost of their kids’ rock-throwing crime spree.

“If you’re a parent, you need to teach your kids not to mess with drivers. It may seem fun but it may be dangerous and even deadly,” Roder said.

Police said the teens face multiple charges of criminal damage to property and their cases are going through Juvenile Court.
