(WEAU) --The Chippewa Valley has some ties to Hollywood and a show on NBC.
Sarah Bassak, a 1999 graduate of Chippewa Falls High School, was featured in an episode of the hit NBC show “Parks and Rec.” Bassak says she credits the Chippewa Valley art scene for jumping starting her acting career.

"Sarah Bassak was sitting here as a junior in this very room when I started teaching here, she has really an infectious personality, still does to this day, she is easy to talk to and enjoy," said Chi Hi Music Teacher, Ron Buckles.

"My biggest inspirations definitely were the drama and music programs, I learned a lot about artistry and about working together with people in a very artistic way," said Bassak.

The doors of the Chippewa Falls High School auditorium opened even bigger doors for Bassak and gave her a chance to appear on one of the most watched shows on TV.

"You kind of realize when you leave the Chippewa Valley how lucky you are to have gone to the high school you did and have the arts that we do in our area," said Bassak.

Bassak’s success has given other students at her alma mater hope that someday their dreams will come true too.

“It really doesn't matter where you come from and I think a lot of kids don't realize that," said Buckles.

“I’m so excited that she is on a show that a lot of people watch, it gives me hope that I can go out there and pursue my dreams, and I can make it, if I push myself. She is really an inspiration to me to pursue my dreams," Chi Hi Senior, Kat Taylor.

“I’m always bragging about Chippewa Falls and small towns in that whole area, there are small towns in Wisconsin where art is really celebrated. I know I wouldn't be where I am today if it wasn't for Chi Hi and all the amazing things that we offer,” said Bassak.

Bassak’s career continues to grow; she will be in comedy called “Birthday Cake” this June.
