CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) - We're just 12 days away from Christmas and for many that means it’s time to check off those final items from the Christmas list.
That's exactly what people in Chippewa Falls were doing Thursday night at an event called Paint the Town Christmas.
The point of the event is to bring business back down to the streets of Chippewa Falls before Christmas.
The kids are getting geared up for the big day, but for business owners in Downtown Chippewa Falls the days leading up to Christmas can be slow.
“We are really trying to get people downtown. Winter time is hard to get people out in the weather,” Morgan Crabb, owner of Touch of Class Ink said.
Crabb says that’s why shops in downtown got together to open their doors to customers looking for an escape from the cold.
Paint the Town Christmas started last year as a way to help bring people back to buying local. This year as part of the event sculptors carved blocks of ice that will be put out in front of businesses for everyone to see.
“It’s something different you don't usually get to see something like this downtown,” sculptor Zach Galindo said.
All of the ice sculptures will be on display in downtown Chippewa Falls until they melt and all the proceeds from the ice sculptures will benefit the Community Closet and food pantry.
