Chippewa Valley sees hundreds of increases in job listings

Eau Claire, WI (WEAU) -- Good news for job seekers, if you're looking for work, local employment agencies say they're looking for you.

In the last couple days two placement services announced they had hundreds of available jobs. Manpower is hiring for more than 500 positions and Adecco says it’s looking for more than 1,100 workers. Its jobs are seasonal positions, with most in the Eau Claire area.

Mason Hutter says looking for job previously was difficult but now, after just a few days of seeking employment at the Eau Claire Job Center, he was able to find work.

Hutter says, "It was very difficult for a while, but now I think the market has completely turned around and now there's a plethora of jobs."

Employment and training specialist, Ed Steinacker with the center says Hutter's quick turnaround may be more than luck.

Steinacker says, "We have noticed an increase in advertised job openings. Job seekers are reporting that they've secured employment. The job search is still a tough one but it does seem that the time frame of a job search has shrunk a bit.

That job search time frame may shrink even more since manpower says it's hiring for 500 positions in the Chippewa Valley. Beth Mathison with Manpower says the increase could be for a couple of reasons.

Mathison says, "Some of the companies we work for are having increased demand for their customers, which then translate to more job opportunities within their organizations. Others, it's just their busier time of year when they're really starting to see an uptick.”

Mathison says the open positions are both short and long term with opportunities in a variety of fields. She says the increase bodes well economically for our area.

Mathison says, "Lots of hiring going on which is a great sign for our economy. The state of Wisconsin for our area, about 28% of companies had anticipated they were going to add staff in the third quarter which is one of the best job reports in the county."

And Steinacker says he believes the recent job listings mean good things for the future. He says, “I am more optimistic about the economy and as far as the unemployment rate, it has been the lowest that I've seen in about 5 or 6 years in Eau Claire county.

Mathison also says that based on what Manpower has seen over the last several quarters, this 500 number is 3 times more than they'd typically expect. So, she recommends taking advantage of what, she says, is a substantial increase.
