Choirs reunite to raise money for food pantry

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Almost three months since they united for the first time on stage to remember Monsignor Edmund Klimek members of six Catholic Church choirs across the Chippewa Valley came together again.

They harmonized their voices; all for a good cause, just in time for thanksgiving.

“He brought so many people together with his ministry and I think he brought us together,” Colleen Garnevicus from Immaculate Conception Church said.

It wasn’t until Father Klimek's funeral that six music directors met face to face and an idea was born.

“How often does an adult group of singers get to come together? Not often does that happen to get to sing with that big of a group,” Becky Santine from St. James the Greater Catholic Church said.

Santine says the choirs decided to combine their talents for the St. Cecilia Sing concert which also raised money for the St. Francis food pantry.

“When you get together with that many voices there is an energy and a spirit that moves through you and it’s hard to describe, but when you feel it you know it,” Dee Bouley of St. Olaf Church said.

Bouley says there is a certain energy that flows when the choirs start singing and that’s why the Saint Cecilia sing took off .

“It was present the day we did the funeral with Fr. Klimek and it was present when we gathered in years past,” Bouley added.

the church says it hopes to continue the St. Cecilia sing for many years to come

“We are drawing from each other’s strengths and it will make us better,” Jane Mueller from St. Raymonds Church said.

You can see the choir's first performance at Fr. Klimek's funeral on a DVD celebrating his life. The DVD is now available at Sacred Heart Hospital.

All proceeds go to the Monsignor Klimek healing presence endowment. For more information of how to buy the DVD, click on the link below.
