Christmas creeping in earlier this year

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- It seems Christmas is creeping in earlier and earlier each year, and experts say we only have ourselves to blame. Retailers claim they are just giving the consumers what they want.

"Come Halloween it's about time I get anxious for Christmas,” said consumer Dianne Shane.

"The costumers are asking earlier and earlier when are we putting out holiday stuff out, so we put it out earlier each year to just help them out,” said Judy Ruhs, the owner of Molly’s Mercantile in Eau Claire.

"This is definitely the earliest I've seen it,” said Jamie Kyser, owner of Tangled Up in Hue, downtown Eau Claire.

Christmas decorations and holiday deals are already in full swing at many local stores, despite that fact the fall isn't even over yet.

"I like having Christmas as soon as possible; I'll do it all year long,” said Shane.

"If you have more months to look at it and enjoy it… it just brings those good feelings for the rest of the year,” said consumer Lisa Moelter.

And some say shopping is much easier to enjoy, when you're the only one at the store.

"Part of shopping a little earlier is to avoid the crowds. And some of people love crowds, I don't,” said Shane.

"It seems like the customers are busy, they want to get out early, because there so many things for them to do," said Ruhs.

And some people we talked to say more than 2 extra months is a win-win for everyone; more money for the business and extra shopping time for customers.
“Near the end we are doing a lot of decorating and cooking aspects of Christmas, so we want that part out of the way,” said Shane.

Some retailers say mid- October makes perfect sense for the start of Christmas sales, because most people have their Halloween decorations up, giving them extra time to shop for friends and family, who are hard to please.
