(WEAU) - A serial killer who confessed to the murder of four men in Western Wisconsin in the 1980’s is waiting to hear if he'll be released Friday.

Alvin Taylor, 65, has been in the Mendota Mental Health Institute for nearly 25 years. He and his victims’ families will hear jury's decision if he'll remain in custody.

Timothy Hayden of Menomonie was found dead in his home from a gunshot wound to the head. Taylor, known as Hayden's friend, was arrested at Hayden's funeral and later admitted to killing Robert Williams of Eau Claire, Daniel Lundgren of Esko, Minnesota, and James Severson of Eau Claire between 1985 and 1987.

All the victims were Taylor's friends. Three were killed by gun shots and Severson by a stabbing.

Diagnosed with a delusional disorder, doctors came to the stand to give their assessments of his current mental state. Retired police officers also recounted their investigations of the gruesome crimes, in hopes that he'll stay in custody.

At this hour, the jury of five is deliberating to determine if Taylor is capable of returning to society without posing a danger to others.
