Eau Claire Police were on scene Friday night at what they are calling an armed robbery at a Mega Holiday gas station on Clairemont Avenue and Cameron Street.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (RELEASE FROM EAU CLAIRE POLICE DEPT.) -- Police need your help tracking down an armed robbery suspect(s), who police believe has hit three gas stations in the last few weeks.

Officer Kyle Roder with Eau Claire Police says there may be more than one suspect involved in the three cases. The first armed robbery happened just before 11 p.m. on July 2nd at the Mega Holiday Store on Eddy Lane. The second report came less than an hour later form the store on E. Clairemont Ave. On Friday around 9 p.m., the store on Cameron St. was also robbed at gunpoint.

Officers from the patrol division, crime unit and detective division have been working on the case, following up on leads over the weekend. Detectives have also been following up with area businesses to look at surveillance footage and ask what they may have seen around the time of the crimes.

Roder says convenience stores are sometimes targeted by criminals.

“It's something where many of these places are open all night,” said Roder. “They're open at times they aren't very busy and that's something that employees and businesses owners need to be aware of.”

Roder said one of the roles the police department has is to educate and work with businesses in the community, discussing ways to make them less of a target. Training employees with different procedures than what businesses already use and prevention through the design of the store can make all the difference, he said.

Roder said the string of robbers could be connected.

“There are some obvious coincidences, all being Mega Holiday within a short period of time, the characteristics of a single male coming into the store, a similar handgun, similar description of the individuals,” said Roder. “So there's a lot of factors that play into it possibly being connected, but again we're going to keep all options open and we're not going to assume anything as we investigate it.”

Detectives were seen patrolling near the Cameron St. area on Monday. Businesses across the St. like Amerasian said their surveillance video shows a suspect running outside past the back of their building.

Roder said people who have information or were near the locations where the armed robberies happen should give the police department a call.

“Often times there are people around who see something or hear something and don’t think it’s important but when we investigate all those tiny pieces of a puzzle come together,” said Roder.

Mega Foods CEO Mike Buck said his team members did exactly what they were trained to do when the three robberies happened so that everyone remained safe.

“Our team members and our customer safety is paramount to all that we do and we invest a lot of time and energy in training them to prepare for situations,” said Buck.

Roder said if you see anything on social media or hear from other individuals about who the suspect(s) might be, call the police department at 715-839-4972 or leave an anonymous tip by texting a tip to TIP411 (847411). In the message section, type ‘ECPD’, followed by a space and then your anonymous tip.
