EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- It seems like grocery stores were the place to be today. So we decided to drop in on several across town to see just how busy it really gets on this day before the big holiday.
"Traditionally this is the second busiest day of the year, second only to the 23 of December, so we are used to this. This is one busy day, off course,” said the manager of Festival Foods Rick Walker.
"I usually buy my turkey first and then I wait until the last day to buy produce, herbs and things like that,” said shopper Maria Maifonet.
But, at our first stop at Festival Foods meat department we found out that not everyone gets their turkey days in advance.
"Really there was just turkey and the sausage on our list today,” said shopper Marry Tornehl.
"A lot of people wait to the end, and they do it every year,” said Walker.
With this traditionally busy Wednesday, stores like the Mega
Foods on South Hastings Way are fully prepared to assist crowds of last minute shoppers, as best they can.
"People are rushing in and out. We got a lot of help on today. That really helped taking care of the folks, too,” said Paul Shaurette, manager of Mega Foods.
And if you are just too busy to shop this holiday season, some stores like Gordy's offer pre-ordered, freshly cooked meals that you can pick up on turkey day.
"We got the turkey, the mash potatoes, the stuffing, so we will cover you when you come to your thanksgiving meal,” said Gordy’s Guru, Matt Selvig.
And if you are not a big fan of crowds and still have some items left on your grocery list, some stores in town will be open 24 hours on Thanksgiving Day, so you can make a quick run for your party favorite then.
