EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Legislation to ban the sale of assault rifles is expected to be introduced to Congress in January. The possible change in law is triggering gun sales across the country.

Many local stores have seen gun sales sky-rocketing. Store owners say people are trying to get their hands on anything they think might be banned.

"We sold a lot of gun accessories. We had over 200 of these PMAGs, which are top of the line magazines. They are all gone now. These are your basic GI version magazines that are used in the military. We went through almost 500 of those,” said the sales associate at the C&C Pawnbrokers in Eau Claire, Luis Arenas.

The possible legislative changes mean big business for many gun shops.
Guns, rifles, and accessories are wiped out from stores across the nation--in just one week.

"Since the shooting the prices of the weapons have gone up a lot. If you take a look across, many sellers have at least double their price of the weapons- and they are selling! People do not care what the prices are like right now; they are buying them because they are so scared that the ban might get passed,” said Arenas.

The new bill that might be introduced in January will possibly ban all high-power weapons as well semi-automatic rifles, like popular AK- 47 models.
But gun sales won't be the only adjustment to the current law.

"The ban will also get rid of all magazines that will carry more than ten rounds. And some off course can carry up 30, so they will no longer be legal to buy,” said Arenas.

Arenas says the store has seen a large amount of first-time weapon buyers who just want to say they owned one before they get banned. And enthusiast are stocking up as well.

"A lot of our customers that have been coming in are customers that just love guns; they'd like to show their second amendment right. A lot of veterans come in here because they fought for that right and they want to keep that right here,” said Arenas.

Off course once you own a semi-automatic rifle no one can take it away from you, but if the bill passes you won't be able to buy another one or sell your old rifle to a second party, just the dealers that are certified by the F.B.I.
