WAUSAU, Wis (WEAU) -- Taylor Co. Sheriff's Deputy Chad Kowalczyk is now recovering at home after being escorted by area law enforcement agencies from the hospital to his parent's house.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Department released a statement saying Deputy Kowalczyk would be released from the hospital Sunday (9/15).

Kowalczyk was shot by 27-year-old Alexander Schneider a week ago (9/9) in Westboro after Kowalczyk contacted him at his home for an alleged court violation.

Law enforcement agencies from Taylor Co., Chippewa Co., Stanley, Thorpe and other areas drove their squad cars, fire trucks and ambulances throughout the more than one hour drive back to his parent's house in Boyd.

The Taylor County Sheriff's Dept. says Kowalczyk has a long recovery ahead of him. Deputy Kowalczyk thanks everyone who has expressed concern and encouragement to him over the past week.
