Jam the Gym: A fun take on fitness for everybody

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A local fitness trainer is taking fitness and adding a dose of fun to it with a workout class he calls 'Jam the Gym'.

Jam the Gym is a full body, strength and aerobic workout, but the difference between this workout and so many other exercises is that it fits all body types, fitness levels and ages.

Owner of Rogcity Fitness Jeff Rogers says whether you're a kid, a grandparent or a busy mom, this workout may be the right fit to get you fit and healthy.

Pam Craker is a busy mom, wife and business woman. She's the owner of My Friends Place - Spa Salon in Eau Claire.

“I haven’t exercised in like 15 years and I never thought I could do this,” said Craker. “But then I came and just fell in love with it.”

Jam the Gym originates from Roger’s other community fitness program called Pack the Park. It’s the same concept but Pack the Park takes place throughout parks in the community while Jam the Gym, as the name says, takes place indoors.

“It’s really fun to see people getting into it. It’s just you and your body, you’re stretching and strengthening without straining yourself,” said Rogers.

The exercise is catered towards just about anyone. Modifications are made on each workout which individuals can choose to take or participants can also challenge themselves by making the exercise more difficult.

Rogers said people who have had injuries, people of all sizes and skills have taken part in the workout series. It all comes down to knowing your limits, he said.

“I think working out is super encouraging when you’re with other people. If you’re like ‘oh I should work out tonight but I don’t want to do it alone, you can come to Jam the Gym and workout with a friend and meet new people,” said Rogers whose classes have held up to 70 or 80 people at a time.

“So many of us have become friends here, it’s just great!” said Craker.
Among the youngest of kids at the workout series, there’s a boy named Parker.

“He begs his mom to come here. I tell Jeff he has to pay me because he watched me instead of him,” said Craker.

Parker’s mom Ann Seidl said she first got involved in the program with her friends. One night when her older sons weren’t available to babysit Parker, she decided to bring him with to Jam the Gym.

“All it took was one time for him to come and he was hooked he loves the music, loves the energy, he begs to come,” said Seidl.

The moves at Jam the Gym are moves you can do anywhere whether its home, work or on-the-go if you’re a traveler.

“There’s no weights, there’s no apparatus or anything,” said Rogers. “You can take Jam the Gym and do it anywhere, anytime.”

Rogers is also known for his workout DVD “On the Road” in which he takes members of Bon Iver through fitness routines that can be done “on the road.”

“I think one of the biggest things is, the community has just embraced this and it’s a fun workout. I think that in itself allows people to see that anybody can get into it and realize that fitness is a lifelong process and it’s supposed to be fun and if you can do this in a group setting and encourage people around you it’s a lot more fun to be a part of it,” said Rogers.
