Janesville teacher resigns after accusations of being drunk on field trip

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV)-- A Janesville school teacher has resigned after allegedly being drunk during a June school field trip.

Teacher Maria Caya resigned Tuesday according to the Janesville Board of Education. She was a 4th grade teacher at Washington Elementary.

In June she passed out while chaperoning an end of the year celebration at a bowling alley. Police say Caya's blood alcohol level was 0.27.

Police did not charge Caya who was taken to the hospital shortly after she passed out.
