EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A local family has a new set of wheels to get around town.

It's all thanks to the “90 Days of Giving", a program that's giving out three free cars over 90 days to families in need of a ride.

WEAU 13 News was there Wednesday for the initiative’s final car surprise at the Milwaukee Burger Company in Eau Claire.

The days of taking the bus and sending his daughters around town in taxis came to an end for Brant Brown after his coworkers put his name in for the "90 Days of Giving".

The cook at the Milwaukee Burger was surprised in the middle of his shift with the keys to a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix.

“Thank you, I don't even know what to say,” Brown said when he got the keys.

Morrie's Chippewa Valley Mazda, Gordy’s County Market and Metropolis Resort came together for the program that gives a used car away to families or non-profits that don’t have one.

“I had no idea. I’m totally overwhelmed,” Brown said.

Wednesday was the Eau Claire man’s first day back at work since recently suffering a heart attack, his second since 2010.

“I have two teenage daughters. And it's tough not having a car trying to coordinate doctor appointments or try to get to work or trying to get them to some sort of active life or activity and it's going to be huge, it's going to make a world of difference. It's a heaven-send, it's wonderful,” Brown said.

The surprise for the single father ends a monumental season of giving that started in December.

“We partnered up with Gordy’s obviously on the $500 gas in the vehicle, Metropolis jumped on board and started giving water park passes and overnight stays away to those runner-up families,” said Bill Bertrand, the General Manager of Morrie’s Chippewa Valley Mazda.

The first thing Brown said he plans to do with the car?

“Maybe a long drive around the city, maybe out to dinner tonight. It’s wonderful knowing that there's people and companies that are willing to give like that into the community,” Brown said.

Bertrand said they had about 2,500 nominees this year.

He said the businesses are already looking forward to next year when they also plan to give out three more cars to families in need.
