Local jumpers shine at North American Ski jumping championships on Saturday

Finland's Sebastian Klinga was the top jumper on Saturday, eclipsing 90 meters on both his jumps, 93 and 90.5 to bring home first place in the Masters Open competition. While Lake Placid, New York's Miles Lussi, winner of the J2 Men Division had the second best jump of the day as Lussi flew 91 meters to edge out Eau Claire Flying Eagles' Ben Loomis who took home second place. Loomis, last year's Long Standing jump champion had two impressive jumps of 87 and 83.5 meters.
Ben Loomis talked about his second place finish in the J2 Men's Division, "It was tough conditions and I was able to pull it off pretty well. It was a big field so it was tough to get on the podium. It's my favorite tournament and it's a lot of fun seeing all my friends out there supporting me."
In the J1 Women's Division, Eau Claire Flying Eagles' Emilee Anderson brought home first place with consistent jumps of 71.5 and 70.5 meters. Anderson, who leaves for the Czech Republic tomorrow to compete in the World Junior championships says it's been a blast to jump in front of her family and friends.
Emilee says, "It's a great time, so many people coming out, doesn't get any better than this. It's so cool for all of us Flying Eagles to be competing at this high level since we've been training together since we were little."
It was a big pay day for a third Eau Claire Flying Eagles member Nick Mattoon bringing home first place in the J1 Men's Division with jumps of 85.5 and 80 meters. Mattoon then captured the Long Standing Jump competition, thrilling the crowd with a jump of 86 meters, his winning jump worth 575 dollars.
Nick talked about his 'money' jump, "Technically it wasn't my best, got lucky with some wind, it all came together at the end. It's amazing and so much fun. I'm glad I was able to do it especially on my last jump. I was struggling all weekend. This last jump really came through for me."
