La Crosse, WI (WEAU) - Criminal charges have been filed in La Crosse County against a man accused of killing a cab driver and leading police on a high-speed chase.

Prosecutors say Timmy Johnson Jr. admitted killing 79-year-old Merle Forbes in June after calling him for a cab ride near the University of Platteville.

Johnson is accused of stabbing Forbes and putting him in the trunk of the taxi.

Police say Johnson got behind the wheel and stopped for pizza. Johnson could hear the dying man moaning in the trunk as he headed for La Crosse.

Police say Johnson fled from a La Crosse police officer who had checked the vehicle's registration. Police say speeds reached 115 mph before Johnson hit an SUV in Holmen and was arrested.
The man accused of killing a taxi driver, putting him in the trunk, and then leading police on a high speed chase is now charged.

Online court records show Timmy Johnson, who is 25, is facing six charges, including several charges of first degree reckless endangering safety, and felony bail jumping.

He's accused of robbing and stabbing 79-year-old Merle Forbes last Thursday, just hours after Johnson was released from jail.

Officers say they found Forbes in the trunk of his car after Johnson led them on a chase through La Crosse County that ended in a crash.

If convicted, Johnson faces more than 50 years in prison.
