"You know growing up ever since I was little I always wanted to be a firefighter," said Jason Raasch.

He had the chance to live his dream. But at just 26-years-old, he never knew all of it would come to an end so soon.

In June he was working at his full-time job as a tow-truck driver, inflating a semi tire. Something he had done time and time again, except this time, things did not go like usual.

"I was in such shock, I wasn't expecting it to blow up," he said.

He was sent to the hospital suffering from brain and neck injuries. And now more than six months later, that accident has changed his life.

"I feel like a burden to everyone that's around me," he said.

He needs help doing almost everything each day and is at risk of sudden blackouts. He is not able to go to work. His employer is refusing to pay Worker's Comp and unemployment, and when he applied for Badgercare, he was turned down.

At the peak of his life, and on the verge of losing everything, he feels helpless.

"I felt horrible almost to the point of being embarrassed to ask my church for help," he said. "I mean I'm 26 and I should be able to provide for myself, but I can't."

And now the man who once built his career on helping others, needs help himself.

"After all those times of waking up at 2:00 and 3:00 in the morning to help complete strangers, I'm hoping somebody else will be willing to help me out."

Jason does not know the long-term effects of his accident but will learn more at an appointment in March.

A fund has been set up in his name. We have details about how to donate below.
