NEW INFORMATION: Police release name of man found dead on railroad tracks

(WEAU)-We now know the name of the man whose body was found on railroad tracks in Ladysmith.

Ladysmith Police say Jacob T. Schmidt, 25, of Ladysmith, formerly of Bruce died. Officers don't suspect foul play. Schmidt's body was found on October 10 on Canadian National Railroad tracks in Ladysmith.

LADYSMITH, Wis. (WEAU) – We’re learning new information about the man’s body that was found October 10 on Canadian National Railroad tracks in Ladysmith.

The Ladysmith Police Department says the man was 25-years-old, and reported to have lived in the Ladysmith/Bruce area. Officers say they do not suspect foul play in the case, and that they aren’t releasing more information as they are working to positively identify the man.

That work is being done at the Madison Crime Lab. Police say they made contact with the victim’s biological mother, and got a DNA sample from her.

Officers had established a lead in the case from one of the two receipts that were found on the man. They’re still looking for help from anyone who may have information that could help in their investigation. LADYSMITH, Wis. (LADYSMITH POLICE DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) - On Oct 10, 2012 at approximately 4:55 pm the Ladysmith Police Department and Rusk County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a deceased body found on the Canadian National Railroad tracks within the City of Ladysmith in the County of Rusk.

The Ladysmith Police Department has received a lead on the case based on a subpoena for records from one of the receipts that was located on the deceased.

Contact was made with the deceased biological mother and a DNA sample was obtained from her. DNA samples were forwarded to the Madison Crime Lab to assist in making positive identification.
The adult male is reported to have lived in the Ladysmith/Bruce area and is 25 years old. No foul play is suspected at this time. No other information is being release pending positive identification.

Ladysmith police and the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department responded to the Canadian National Railroad tracks in Ladysmith just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. They found the body of a white man. His age is unknown, and investigators say he may have shoulder length brown hair. There was no identification on him, and his name has not been released. There’s also no word on how he died.

Officers want to talk to anyone who has information on a missing person, or anyone who saw anyone on the railroad tracks in Ladysmith on Wednesday. They should call 715-532-2186.

LADYSMITH, Wis. (NEWS RELEASE) - On Oct 10, 2012 at approximately 4:55 pm the Ladysmith Police Department and Rusk County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a deceased body found on the Canadian National Railroad tracks within the City of Ladysmith in the County of Rusk.

The body is identified as a white male, unknown age, with possibly shoulder length brown hair. The subject was wearing black size 31 dress pants, a black button up dress shirt, flannel underpants, a black and silver neck tie and slip on black dress shoes. There was no identification on the body, a receipt from April 2012 from Kwik Trip in Chippewa Falls, WI, and a receipt from August 2012 from McDonald's in Eau Claire, WI, were located on the deceased person.
