EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- "You're pretty nervous the first day, but the people out there are nice like in Wisconsin, and the hours just seem to fly by," said Brett Miller, who flies to Menards in Minot, ND weekly for work.

He does not have a typical 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. gig at Menards. He is part of a group of 50 people that flies each week from Eau Claire to Minot. Once a week they start their day early, making the hour and a half flight to work.

"Half off us go out on Fridays and we work till Tuesday, and the other half go out until Friday," he said.

He says he will spend eight hours working the first day, about 12 to 14 hours the next few days, and a shortened day on Tuesdays before Menards flies him home.

As we first told you in November, Menards took the unusual approach to staff a busy store in a boom town.

"It's really a sight to see, it's like black Friday everyday," he said. There's 12 aisles of cashiers and the lines can go 7 to 8 deep, so it's a fun place to work."

He says he is flexible at this point in his life which drew him to the job. Both of his kids are now grown-up.

"The paychecks are excellent and with the food and hotel costs covered, and the transportation, it's a really good deal," he added.

He says it is interesting spending time in Minot as well, seeing it explode with the gas and oil rush.

"Everywhere when you drive through town there's banners on businesses that say they're hiring," he said.

And as the country moves out of an economic slump, he is happy someone has found a way to share the prosperity out west, with people back here.

"John Menard really came up with a good idea to bring workers from Wisconsin out there," he added.
