BLOOMER, Wisc. (WEAU) - The cool weather is just right for a Grantsburg family heading out for a camping trip. But it’s not an ordinary outing after a little boy's wish came true with the help of many.

“It's wasn’t his birthday, but for 3-year-old Eddie Fischer of Granstburg, it was still a day to celebrate.

“(Eddie) has a rare condition called Chiari malformation of the brain. Basically, the back of his brain is herniated down into his spinal canal. He's undergone two brain surgeries thus far and has more in the future,” Eddie’s mom, Erika Fischer said.

After spending more than two years in and out of pain and hospital beds while battling the life-threatening condition, the Fischer family looked for a way to brighten his days.

“(Eddie) likes the outdoors, and loves to fish and hunt, so we figured, what better than a camper and continually for years to come, go fishing and hunting,” Eddie’s dad, Eric Fischer said.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation was there to help. Wish granters asked Eddie what he wanted. His desire to be outside, and need to stay cool made the camper a perfect choice, his family said.

“He can't handle heat. So this has air conditioning and it's a good way to camp versus a tent for him,” Erika said.

With donations from Willie’s RV in Bloomer and the Jayco Company, Eddie got his brand new camper at Willie's Saturday.

Eddie said his favorite part was his bed.

“We're gonna head up to Yogi Bear Park in Door County and camp. So he's really looking forward to using it and sleeping in it tonight,” Erika said.

Eddie said his favorite thing about camping is roasting marshmallows.

For Eddie, it's more than a camper, but something to look forward to when times get tough.

“To see (kids) just light up, knowing that they're gonna have a wish granted, that's really for me, that's what it's all about,” Wish granter Mike Jones said.

“(Eddie) feels blessed to be the way he is and the way God made him and it's exciting for him to be different enough that he's getting something that most kids wouldn't have the opportunity to have,” Erika said.

“Thank you, Make-A-Wish,” Eddie said.
