(WEAU) -- Fact and fiction intertwine in a new movie just released in theaters. "Promised Land" is based on a story of a small town hitting an economic decline. That is until a company proposes drilling.

While the movie is fiction, it shows a real struggle some small towns go through as they weigh the decision to drill. And here in Western Wisconsin, it is a movie that parallels decisions towns have made about mining for sand. One of those towns is New Auburn.

Lance Arneson and Tiffany Perkins saw the trailer for the first time today.

"The community coming together kind of peaked my interest and drew my attention," Perkins said.

Lance lives near the sand plant and is along the trucking route. He says it has been an adjustment from the country life he once knew and likes the sand.

Tiffany Perkins says she remembers the community meetings about the controversial development.

"I do really remember not a lot of people being happy about it, I guess I try to look at with it meaning more jobs coming to the community," she said.

And that is how Caleb Trowbridge and his brother Coree see it. More jobs and opportunity for people in New Auburn. It is still a big topic in town.

"Quite a bit of people talk about it," he said.

They too are seeing the trailer for the first time and say the movie has peaked their interest.

"Yeah I think I would go," Caleb said.

Back at Lance's, opinions are on the fence about mining. Both he and Tiffany Perkins say they can see both perspectives.

"It's good that we have more jobs coming in, you know jobs are scarce around here but it's the land thing," Perkins added.

A small town that has faced a big decision, just like in the movies.
