Ella and Olivia Coleman are learning a lesson from their new puppet Pal, Drippity Drop, at the Eau Claire sustainability festival. She is teaching them about shutting off the water when they brush their teeth at night.
"You can save 3,000 gallons of water a year," the puppet told Ella and Olivia.
Drippity joined more than 30 other exhibitors to help teach kids and adults the importance of sustainability.
"We're looking at how do you sustain your health, how do you sustain the environment, how do you sustain the things you need to run your home and car," said Jill Christopherson, the event coordinator.
The first year event offers a lot of information and hands on activities from people who are passionate about their sustainability niche.
Sue Glenz came out on her own to teach people how to compost.
"Our family's been composting for years, partly because we live in a space where we had a big vegetable garden and flower garden," she said.
Glenz made her booth very visual, hoping to get her point across.
But composting is just a small part of a bigger picture.
"We try to get a nice balance between energy, environment, health and food production to get that total picture," said Christopherson.
The goal today: get the kids interested first, hopefully the adults follow along to start new home habits.
"They might say something that was really fun for us to do, maybe we could do that at home," Christopherson added.
