EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - Students and staff at North High School honored the memory of Martin Luther King Jr. by pledging to be non-violent throughout their lives.
Organizers say Dr. King built his movement around the principles of nonviolence, so this was a way to honor him. The pledges were then gathered and displayed in the common area.
"It has something about respect, respecting others, communicating better, listening, forgiving, just being respectful and having a peaceful environment for everyone, for friendships and bonds we create with other people," said North High School Junior Whisper McDew.
Organizers hope the exercise will remind people in the community that nonviolent discussions can leave the classroom and be welcomed into the home.
