PLEASANT VALLEY, Wis. (WEAU) - Investigators are looking for two armed men who broke into a home, before robbing and beating a migrant worker.
The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Department said the victim reported being attacked by the intruders wearing masks and looking for money and drugs in early July.
The 23-year-old victim was asleep on the couch when the men broke in, officers said. He was attacked with a hammer, and cut his head before a neighbor called for help, earlier this month, according to the report. The victim's roommate hid in the back of the house during the robbery.
The victim's cousin said he’s now healed and back at the home on Highway HH near Cleghorn.
The cousin said the men only took money but damaged much of the home, including the front door.
Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer said the men who lived there may have been targeted by someone who knew they had a large amount of cash, and thought they might not report the crime in fear of legal status issues.
“We want to make sure we can identify who this pair of individuals are and it almost sounds like a conspiracy to rip these folks off, so we want to put an end to this real quickly,” Cramer said.
Cramer asked any other possible victims to come forward, saying law enforcement can only check the legal status of those charged with a crime
