Officers serve up free lunch to benefit Special Olympics

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)--Officers were serving people Monday afternoon, but there were no warrants involved.

Local law enforcement officers were serving up lunch at Texas Roadhouse. The lunch was free, but all tips went to Special Olympics Wisconsin.

Patrons got a pulled pork sandwich with sides and soda. For those who couldn't make it to the store, officers, along with workers from Ken Vance Motors and Special Olympics athletes, delivered to businesses.

"The amount of community support that we are getting through this event is...beyond words. I actually get really emotional thinking about it because we had so many delivery orders coming in, so many people come through the door. This money is going right to our athletes," says Karen Kraus, Regional Director of Development.

Kraus says they raised more than $10,000 while serving just less than 1,500 meals, which comes out to about 600 pounds of pork.
