Medical Rescue Ambulance Abstract Photo

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – We now know the name of the man who died in a snowmobile crash Monday morning.

Cornell Police Chief Ryan Peterson says Jacob Sargent, 39, of Cornell died in the wreck. Another man was taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

It happened around 2:20 a.m. Monday. A spokesman from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says both men were riding on one snowmobile south on the Old Abe State Trail, which crosses over State Highway 64 on a 12-foot trail bridge in Cornell. The sled hit a curve or guard rail near where the bridge begins. That’s when both men were thrown about 50 feet forward and fell down about 20 feet to the pavement below.

Sargent was pronounced dead at the hospital. The DNR is investigating.
