EAU CLAIRE, Wis--Those who haven't gotten the flu yet are scrambling to get flu shots - where they're available.
Several pharmacies in the Eau Claire area say they are out of the vaccine or have limited supply.
Walgreens Pharmacy on Hastings Way is busier than ever, pharmacists working around the clock to help keep the Chippewa Valley healthy and vaccinated.
"We are especially busy with the flu vaccine and everyone is hearing the reports on how important it is," said Pharmacist Jim Karker.
The Wisconsin Department of Health says so far there have been more than 4,186 confirmed cases of influenza in Wisconsin, 853 of those cases in the western half.
"I’m concerned about the number of flu cases going around,” said Ginger Giese of Osseo.
Ginger Giese came into Walgreens to get her flu shot. She says she doesn't want to chance getting sick.
"I travel a lot for work and it seems like every time you’re at an airport someone is sick, so it’s nice to be able to protect yourself a little," said Giese.
And she's not alone. Karker says they are seeing more and more people every day come in for the flu shot...some even for the first time.
"As the vaccines are used we are anticipating the need and ordering the shipments as needed. There have been a couple of times when it’s been a close call waiting for the shipments to come in but we have it," said Karker.
The Eau Claire County Health Department also has vaccines available. You can call for an appointment 715-839-2876. The Department will also be holding a clinic from 4-6pm January 28th.
