LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Police are looking for the man who they say is responsible in an attempted homicide.
The La Crosse Police Department said they’re trying to find 31-year-old Thomas Beitlich of Madison
Police said Beitlich has ties to Vernon County, and they think he’s in the La Crosse area.
The La Crosse Police Department said officers were called to 1502 Ferry Street just before 3:00 Sunday morning.
They say 31-year-old Thomas Beitlich broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home where she was with 33-year-old Terrance Callahan.
Police said Beitlich took a blunt object, and hit Callahan numerous times before fleeing.
“It is very disturbing, especially this is kind of a domestic violence incident, so domestic violence sometimes can be serious, and we take them serious all the times,” said Lt. Patrick Hogan.
Matt Paulson lives next door.
He said it’s shocking to hear about what happened.
“It’s very surprising. Generally we live in, this is a pretty quiet neighborhood, and the fact that something like that happened is very unusual,” said Paulson.
Paulson said despite what happened, he feels safe.
He also said he didn’t really know anyone who lived there.
“They really kept to themselves, when I did see them we might wave or something, but that was about the extent of it,” said Paulson.
Police said Callahan has 15 to 20 cuts to his head.
A criminal complaint said a doctor told police Callahan had several skull fractures and lost a lot of blood.
The complaint also said Callahan will have serious brain injuries if he survives.
