Psychologist talks about mental effect of May snow

(WEAU) – So most people agree when it gets warm and sunny, our attitudes improve. So what happens psychologically when we have snow in May?

We asked a local counselor Wednesday who says the winter had a real, and negative impact on people.

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Emilia Chumas-Skaw told us “I've definitely seen an increase in people who have depression or tendency to be depressed, dysthymia, increase in depression this year, more snow, gloomier weather, less sunshine, people have struggled a little more.”

She says the long winter didn't help people get the sun's vitamin d or as much exercise to release the endorphins we need to feel better.
