(WEAU) - It's Money Smart Week in Wisconsin and Monday night, people in Rice Lake got a chance to learn about identity theft.
Royal Credit Union hosted a seminar on "Identity Theft and Social Media" at the Rice Lake Public Library. The program was free.
Money Smart Week is a public awareness campaign to promote financial literacy across all age groups.
Digital Marketing Specialist with RCU Andrea Finn says when it comes to identity theft, adults are not the only victims anymore. "Little is known about the true scope of children and their identity theft. There was just some research that was done in 2012 saying that 1 in 40 households with children reported misuse of their children's social security card," Finn told us.
RCU is hosting another session on identity left and social media Tuesday night. It starts at 5:30 pm at the Chippewa Fall Public Library and is also free and open to the public.
