EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- First responders ware called today to 404 South Barstow Street downtown Eau Claire, after a service line that fed the building ruptured.

Firefighter say when they arrived on scene there was about a foot of water in the basement, rising. Utilities section came in and shut the water main off, but some of it still escaped the basement onto the street, leaving the part of Graham and Main blocked off.

“It's going to be blocked off the rest of the day, and into tomorrow, we are going to have to repair that service line that actually feeds the building,” said Bryon Bensen, the Battalion Chief of the Eau Claire Fire Department.

Officials say the water caused a lot of damage to the basement of building, but there is no estimate available yet.
