Spring is here, but cooler temperatures could be sticking around

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The snow may not be completely gone, but Thursday is the first day of spring.

Many people were out to take advantage of the warmer temperatures.

However, forecaster Jeff Boyne with the National Weather Service said it looks like we're going to see a colder spring than normal.

"That's mainly due to the snow pack that's still existing, and the cold ground, and also the cold Great Lakes," said Boyne.

Boyne said it could be as late as May before we start seeing temperatures closer to normal.

Although it may not look like spring outside, some people say they welcome today's weather after the winter we've had.

"It's nice to actually get outside, and be able to walk around and it's not freezing," said Nicole Neuverth.

"I love it. I can finally take my dog out on a run," said Devin Dettmering.”

"I think we have been long overdue," said Tom Pfaff.

Boyne said we could struggle to get out of the 20s this weekend.

However, he said it won't be quite as cold as we saw in January or February.

"Seeing these cold air masses continuing to move southward into late March, and even heading into April it's sort of discouraging a little bit," said Boyne.

"I'm just really looking forward to having warm weather for once so that's why I'm out taking advantage of the day today," said Neuverth.

"The warmer weather and hopefully the leaves starting to come back and the green grass, the pretty sights," said Dettmering.

"I like it hot, and 80 and 90 and even close to 100 degrees humidity, I'm fine with it," said Pfaff.
