WEST SALEM, Wis (WEAU)- Many farms are already starting to let people pick strawberries.

It’s because of the unusually warm weather we’ve had recently.

The season is starting about 10 days early and some strawberry pickers are happy to see it off to an early start.

“I’m excited about it, I love picking. The earlier the better,” said strawberry picker Isabell Johnson.

Johnson has been picking strawberries her whole life, and was one of the first ones out in the field today at Jolivette farms.

The place has been growing strawberries since the 70’s.
The owner says he’ll open up to the public this weekend.

“Saturday morning 7 o’clock. People aren’t used to picking this early but it’ll work out,” said farm owner Jon Jolivette.

The strawberry season only lasts about 3 weeks, so by the end of June most of the strawberries will likely be picked over.

“Were for sure not going to have any berries the 1st of July,” said Jolivette.

Not only are the strawberries here earlier than normal they are also bigger than ever because they missed that April frost.
