(WEAU) - Thursday is "National Coming Out Day,” and gay advocacy groups across the nation are celebrating, including here in Eau Claire.
Support was on hand at UW-Eau Claire, as friends encouraged friends to come out and discuss the issues of coming out. Organizers say it's also a chance for those who have already come out as gay to share their story.
Christopher Jorgenson, with the university's Women's and LGBTQ Resource Center told us Thursday “Well you know when you can acknowledge who you are and not be afraid, to know other people will love you regardless, whether it’s familial or professionally or just friends, it's a very powerful thing. To deny that part of yourself because fear has a profound impact on your life.”
This was UW-Eau Claire's third annual “Coming Out Day” event.
