EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- For the past four years, Beatrice Nendez has studied information systems at UW-Eau Claire. Next weekend she'll graduate, joining hundreds of other Blugolds out looking for a job.

But for her, that search takes on a different level of importance.

"The situation in my country is not good," said Beatrice Nendez, who is studying at UW-Eau Claire and is from Venezuela.

She is banking on finding a job in the U.S. because she says things back home in Venezuela are dangerous.

"You could go on the street and get kidnapped, robbed or shot, that's the main reason why I'm here," she said.

She moved to the U.S. in middle school because of the political problems in her country. She has studied here ever since and wants to work here as well.

But as an international student, finding a job that will sponsor your visa is tough, especially with larger companies.

"And that's really hard because big companies don't sponsor visas at the undergrad level, but in order to go to a Master's you need experience, so it's a whole deal," she said.

But she is feeling optimistic, having tried to get as much experience through college as she can. Still, there is anxiety and the worry about her family back home.

"It's hard to know that something could happen to them at any moment," she said.

One day she hopes to return home for good, but for now, hopes there is a job and future for her here.

"I would love to go back to my country and use all my knowledge we've learned here, and apply it there because there are a lot of things we're missing. But that's not going to happen until we change our politics," she said.
